The plate-and-frame filter press used in these systems consists of alternating filter plates and filter frames, which are arranged to create a series of filtration chambers. The surface of each filter plate features grooves that securely hold the filter cloth. Meanwhile, the filter frame and the corner filter plates are equipped with perforated holes that, when assembled together, form a complete channel—through which filtrate, slurry, and washing water can be introduced and extracted efficiently.
The filter plates and filter frames are supported on beams by handles on both sides, while the pressing frame is held in place by a clamping mechanism. Between the plates and frames of the wastewater treatment equipment, a filter cloth is positioned as a sealing gasket. A feed pump hydraulically forces the suspension into the filtration chamber, where it deposits the filter cake onto the filter cloth and gradually fills the chamber. Meanwhile, the filtrate flows along grooves in the filter plates, passes through the corner channels of the plate-and-frame assembly, and is finally discharged.

Once rinsing is finished, compressed air is sometimes used to remove any residual cleaning fluid.
